Benefits of Massage Therapy

What is Equine Massage Therapy?

Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for these therapeutic purposes: providing relaxation and rejuvenation, increasing flexibility, enhancing movement, improving local and systemic circulation, and reducing pain.

  • Improves blood flow, thereby easing muscle soreness and speeding up muscle recovery.

  • Relieves tension by stretching and spreading muscle fibers and tissues causing muscles to relax and loosen.

  • Increases circulation therefor bringing damaged, tense muscles the oxygen rich blood they need to heal.

  • Influences neuroendocrine chemicals in the body to release endorphins which can cause physical relaxation and natural pain relief.

  • Relaxes tense muscles and reduce stiffness and swelling that causes muscle spasms.

  • Increase pliability and flexibility of the soft tissues.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

This is a full body maintenance/preventative therapeutic massage suitable for all horses. Massage allows horses to release tension that may be inhibiting their full athletic potential. I will focus on releasing trigger points, muscle spasms, knots, restricted fascia and tightness throughout each muscle and I will be able to tell you where your horse is reactive to pressure.

Ultimately the goal is to balance your horse's entire body - giving it the ability to use individual muscles to their complete capability .

We recommend this as every horse's first session and every 2-6 weeks thereafter as maintenance for athletes under heavy workloads.
